The sundial at the North River Yacht Club is a type of equatorial bow sundial, designed and built in Lucerne, Switzerland.  The shadow of the pole cast on the face marks the solar time, and the winding line indicates the amount needed to be added or subtracted to the solar time to tell our normal time. The point of light thru the pinhole can be used to tell the date, as it’s path on the dial changes from day to day.

Reading the shadows in the picture, I would have to say that this picture was taken on the 24th of July, right around 5:20pm…  Just kidding, you can’t actually see the part of the dial that would read the time, but that is when it was taken.
