We’re Back!!

Welcome to the new and improved “Where to Willie”.   I really hope you like it, and I’ll continue to make improvements and make all the time.

Experiments with the Milky Way

I can’t remember the last time that I saw the Milky Way this clear.  It really was astounding, and it’s one of those things that you forget about if it’s not in front of your face.  I realized during my experiments, standing in the cool ocean breeze outside the car, that taking pictures of the Milky Way is not as easy as one may assume.  After fumbling with the settings in the dark, I managed to make it here.

  1. Sick. So what settings did you end up using? and what kind of lens did you use? I’m super unseasoned when it comes to photographing the sky.

    • So for the settings you can always hop over to the gallery, it will have every piece of metadata you can imagine :) But for this shot I ended up going around f6.3, ISO 1250, 30sec exposure, and a 10-24mm lens at 10mm. I really could have used to drop down the f stop, seeing as shooting the sky, everything is at infinity! I didn’t think about that at the time though, and I could have saved myself some noise in the ISO or a little less movement in the stars. Next time, I’ll be ready!

      • Thank you!!! I’m gonna try this!
