Death Valley

Wow what a crazy weekend!  We took off late Friday for the valley, making camp the first night just outside the gates.  The rest of the weekend was a blur, everything from painted mountain faces to deserted playas.  You can be sure to see some of the images here soon!

An Explosion of Color

It was one of those nights, where the sky just lights up after the sun goes down.  You can never completely predict it because it has so much to do with what the clouds are doing beyond the horizon.  I like to say that be ahead of the sunset curve, otherwise by the time you get somewhere to take a photo, the colors could already be gone.  On this night, though, the color just stuck.  It waited and waited for me to get to what I thought was an interesting position.  I was in such a hurry when I arrived at this bridge that I actually left my tripod in the car, and tried to balance the camera on the guard rail.  Luckily it worked, and the long exposure captured the speeding cars on the highway, dashes of light moving thru the evening.
