In the Reef

Vehicles

To do list for the weekend, go lay down in the back of several different styles of SUVs.  The hunt begins.

In the Reef – Great Barrier Reef // Cairns, Australia

My goal for next year is to get back in to scuba diving. Hopefully I can find some exciting places to explore, and I’ll definitely have a better camera next time around. This was taken on one of those disposables from a convenience store!

Stars over the Ocean

I accidentally came across this photo the other day and loved it, so it got bumped to the top of the list for developing.  I remember this night like it was yesterday, perfectly clear and calm, with a warm breeze.  We were only allowed a small bag on the ship, so I had no sort of tripod, and then again we were on a boat moored in the water anyways, so I tried my best to get a good mix between turning up the ISO for a faster shutter, and not getting too noisy to mess with the stars. If you view the picture larger you’ll see that there was some movement, but I don’t mind.  The color and feeling is still there.

Pure White Sands

Pure White Sands

Stepping on to the beach for the first time you feel the sand melt away between your toes.  Perhaps there is sometime special to these beaches, lonely islands off the coast of north eastern Australia. According to the guide they are some of the most pure sands in the world, sometime like 98% pure silica. The trees closest to the beach seemed to be effected by the pure white of the sand, and were bleached out and stark against the lush tropical greens further up the island.

Lonely Sunset at Manly Beach

Lonely Sunset at Manly Beach

It’s funny how music can define aspects of someone’s life. It can bring back memories, feelings, emotions…Certain music brings you back to different places and times, and it’s the same for here. I often end up with my headphones in when I’m wandering around, both in new places and in old. The music transforms the place in to something more.

Rainy Reflections at Darling Harbour

Broken Screen

Well, I managed to somehow crack my LCD window on the camera a few weeks back.  After some research online, it didn’t seem to be quite the conundrum that I had fretted.  I called up Nikon, ordered a piece of replacement glass and a new piece of special tape that would line the housing, and using an X-acto knife pried the old glass and tape out, and viola, good as new!

Rainy Reflections at Darling Harbour

Even though my shoes ended up soaking wet, and it was colder out than would have been enjoyable, the way the lights and colors reflected off all the shining surfaces kind of evened it out. The rain didn’t stop Darling Harbour as being a bustle of activity this winter evening.

When the stars line up
And you catch a good break
People think you’re lucky
But you know its grace
It can happen so fast
Or a little bit late
Timing is everything

Canvas Printing

Canvas Printing

Well I almost forgot to put this picture up! I was waiting to make sure the big reveal had been completed before I posted it, and it slipped my mind. This is my friend Andy, who just recently became a proud father (like yesterday), and his canvas printed photo that I had taken at Cape Byron. After calling me up one day asking about a photo to have printed for the baby’s new room, we got to talking about what would go best with the room, and came up with this decision. Actually it was out first and only choice, because it worked out so well.  Glad you like it Andy!
