You’ll be seeing some site updates coming in the next few days. Also, the 32 Bit HDR tutorial should be rolling out tomorrow!
As the Sun Pours Out on the Curved Roof
That’s quite a title. It is really what happened though. I had circled back a couple of times trying to figure out a safe way to pull over to this spot, and of course each time I passed it, it took 5 minutes to get back to where I had the chance to stop again. It was one of those weirdly cloudy days, where it was cloudy for the most part, but brighter than it normally would be. After stumbling around in the swampy ground up closer to the cabin, I was wandering back to the car. Just as I was about to get in the car to leave, the sun broke thru the clouds, pouring out it’s warm light. Time for one quick shot before it sunk back behind, leaving as fast as it arrived.
Becoming One With the Earth
For a nature scene, this one really has a lot of ‘key’ elements going on. You’ve got your interesting foreground, with the tall grass and the overgrown building. Then you’ve got the framing, the tall hill in the background that falls off behind the fields. And finally there is the dramatic sky, with slightly ominous looking clouds topping off the scene. There is also something about green, the way the color looks in a photo, it feels like something comforting.
Where will you go next?

The Little Crooked House
Lots of times I’ll try out a photo in black and white. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes the color looks just as awesome as the black and white option.
Driving down some rural highway in New Jersey this little shed/barn/house/whatever it is caught my eye, but it was too late to pull over as I cruised past. After more attempts than I would like to admit, I made it to a good place to pull off the road and wandered down to snap a few different angles of this building. It was one of those places that the more you looked around, the more neat things you would find. Like the other little shed that was off to the right side of the photo, or the weird slanting doors and window that was just a couple feet off the ground. All in all, it turned out pretty fun.
Out and About
Well these last few weeks sure have been busy. While I’m always carrying around my big ole camera, I’ve always got my phone or iPod going behind the scenes snapping away as well. Here’s a few from New Jersey/New York City, as well as from China and Taiwan.
Some of the best pizza I’ve had recently. Cheese as an accent, not as a drowning greasy pool…
One of many trains. Got to put my feet up for about 5 min till the ticket guy came round to tell me otherwise.
Another train station, lights of the next train coming down the rail.
Hahaha watch out for those magical doohikeys…
Central park NYC, the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir.
Had the chance to do a talk with Ms. Gissler’s high school art class. What a great experience, and loads of fun!
Window sunsets in New Jersey
Set up among the other tourists in NYC, taking in some views of Times Square.
Instagram-ography. I think that’s officially a term now.
No tripods allowed, that’s okay, I have a backpack.
Tripods allowed here, on the Brooklyn Bridge. This is more precarious than it looks, but for mom’s sake, we’ll pretend like it’s not.
Hmmmm I think we could probably go thru this gate?…
Candles burning in the temple.
So there were two monks playing badminton… Sounds like the start of a bad joke, but it was just a normal afternoon.
A pretty standard view of my hotel desks, camera, lenses, passport, map, a warm cup of tea. Ready for the evening!
Probably the greenest soup I’ve eaten. Hangzhou, China.
Clouds over Taiwan.
Here fishy fishy.
Stonework and full wall windows outside Taipei.
High speed rail is a great way to get around.
Behind the scenes at the epic Chiang Kai-shek memorial.
Out the window of the Splendor hotel.
Exploring new places in Taiwan.
Monday I spent the day driving from Ohio to New Jersey. There were a few cool stops along the way, and some pretty inclement weather as well. All’s well that ends well, and New Jersey has been interesting thus far. Last night proved pretty interesting on the photo scene. Tomorrow I’ll unveil some behind the scenes photos.
New Photo Usage
I was contacted recently regarding using a photo as the background to a website. I’m happy to show Michel’s new site for his business, all fixed up with a fitting background!
On the Road Again
Sorry I missed yesterday all of you whom are regular readers. I’ve made it to New Jersey, stopping at a couple cool spots in between Illinois and here. Today is going to be a busy one here, but I’m excited to get out and about and do some exploring. If you see me on the streets, watch out! Oh and I almost forgot! We went to Chicago last weekend. Had an awesome time and did a lot of picture taking. I haven’t even had a moment to slow down to download the pictures, but hopefully I’ll get my act together tomorrow night and have some extra time.
